5 Ways to Get Jacked Using Just a Jack-O-Lantern

It’s almost Halloween—that spooky-good time of year when carefree frolicking, creative costumes, and calorie-filled candies abound. But don’t despair (did you know it takes 17 minutes of burpees to burn off a bite-sized Snickers?!) over the inevitable overindulgences this holiday initiates. I’ve got 5 simple exercises you can do to turn those sweets into sweat. So before you carve that pumpkin, let’s carve some muscles in this easy to follow circuit.

Headless Horseman Squats

Stand with legs hip-distance apart and hold your pumpkin at chest height or right in front of your face. Squat down, ideally bringing your hips to a 90 degree angle. As your stand-up, press the pumpkin to the sky. Off with your head! Return to start. Repeat.

Axe Murderer Chops

Squat and twist left, bringing your pumpkin to the outside of your left knee. Exhale and lift the pumpkin diagonally across the body, ending twisted to the right with the pumpkin above your head. Let your foot pivot as necessary and move with control. That’s right, you’re a controlled axe murderer.

You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere Runs

Assume a push-up position with your hands balanced on top of your pumpkin. Brace your stomach as if you were about to be punched. Without changing your body position (butts down, everyone), bring your right knee into your chest and then immediately switch legs. Alternate back and forth.

One-Armed Push-ups

Shift your weight from your push-up position so that your right hand is on the pumpkin and your left hand is on the floor. Perform a push-up, on your knees if necessary. Now switch so your left hand is on the pumpkin. Mwahahahaha!

Pumpkin Spice Twists

Sit on the floor, knees bent, and hold your pumpkin at your chest. Engage your core and scoop back, creating an imaginary V-shape with the thighs and torso. Twist to the right and try to tap the pumpkin on your right side, then left side. Now dream of Pumpkin Spice things you actually enjoy.

Perform each exercise for 30 to 60 seconds for as many rounds as you can take and remember, the bigger the pumpkin, the bigger the burn. Your muscles are in for a real treat! Happy Halloween!
